Sea Monster
Sea monsters will appear as an & symbol while you are sailing.
You can view and also use a your telescope to get a better description of the sea monster.

Location
Where is this NPC found?
The sea monster travels through the sea while you are fishing or sailing. It is attracted to ships within a certain amount of space between the ship itself and the monster.

Special Notes
A sea monster is a very large animal that is found in the sea while fishing or sailing. It is highly attracted to ships and will damage your ship if you are unable to get to port very quickly.
Many sailors who have been lost at sea and are unable to outrun the sea monster have lost their lives, cargo and ship due to the large chunks that have been eaten out of their ships hull, and masts by the sea monster.
There are very few ships that are able to survive a sea monster and only two that are able to outrun a sea monster unless they are very close to a port.
If you see a sea monster while you are sailing the best thing to do is to get to port and have your ship repaired by the Minister of War if possible. Otherwise if your ship has damage it could slow sink in port and you will eventually gain water in your billages and it will sink.
Just because you own a Man O War, Galleon, or Frigate does not mean you will be able to successfully shoot and kill a sea monster. There are ways to do this but it requires extreme skill and patience.
If you decide to abandon your ship and there is a sea monster about you will not be able to move the ship from that port until the sea monster finds another food source.
So if you are forced into dock it is best to wait until the sea monster finds another victim before you leave to go anywhere else.
